What is ADF?
From the ADF website:
"Ár nDraíocht Féin: A Druid Fellowship (ADF) is a pagan church based on ancient lndo-European cultures and practices. Ours is an inclusive, contemporary form of Druidry open to practitioners of Celtic, Norse, Slavic, Baltic, Greek, Roman, Persian, Vedic, and other traditions."
"Ár nDraíocht Féin" (pronounced like this is modern Irish phrase that translates to "Our Own Druidry". ADF isn't an Irish organization, and many folks find the spelling and pronunciation a bit tricky, so you'll mostly hear people call us "ADF" or possibly "A Druid Fellowship". 🙂
How is ADF Druidry different from other kinds of Druidry?
There are many wonderful Druid organizations and ways of practicing Druidry in the world today. In ADF Druidry, there's a strong emphasis on providing community and public worship. We value study and prefer to use accurate historical research to inform our practice, rather than conjecture and fantasy. We aim to be welcoming and inclusive - all people of good will are welcome in Our Druidry!
We use the best available historical research to understand how ancient Indo European Pagans practiced their religion, but we are not strict reconstructionists. We don't live in the Bronze Age, and don't need to pretend that we do (unless that is your jam!) We let history inform our modern practices without being tied to the past.
We find enough commonalities among the way our ancient Indo-European ancestors practiced their religion that we can worship together even if we honor different Gods and Spirits at our own Hearths. And that's a good thing - it might be really hard to find enough Pagans in one place to form a robust community who all worship, for example, the Greek Gods. But if you take all the Pagans who worship the Greek Gods, Celtic Gods, Slavic Gods, Roman Gods, and so on... well, you get the idea!
Where can I go to learn more? The new ADF Website has lots of helpful information!
(Note: there's also still a lot of information on the old ADF website. ADF is in the middle of a big website transition, so things are moving around.)
